Approaching Silence by Precious Silence

Welcome to my blog...................

My mission for you is ......... Learn To Listen
One of the things that nobody really tells you is how to learn to listen to music. In fact, there is much skill in listening to music.

........................It can help to relaxing your mind

Did you know music can help you study? Studies have shown that the right kind of music can help you relax your mind which enables you to concentrate better. Perfect to studying, doing homework or studying for a test or exam. It cuts down on distractions and helps you focus on your work.

Enjoy your stay here.....

It’s all too easy to have a runaway a mind or have it so full of thoughts that you feel like you’re herding cats! There are definitely days when it’s going a million miles a minute in all different directions. Those days make it nearly impossible to shut down the mental chatter or focus on anything. Stress and worry clog up your mental processes. Nothing sticks and nothing good comes out, either.

This causes even more stress, sometimes to the point where the mind seizes up and you can’t function or make the simplest of decisions! But you can learn how to clear your mind completely and get it under control again.

NewYear....in silence

Every culture and religion in the world has its own way to define and celebrate the coming of the new year. While the Chinese have the Imlek celebration, the Muslims celebrate the first of Muharram, and the world in general celebrates the first of January, the Hindus of Bali welcome the New Year based on the traditional Saka Calendar with the ritual of Nyepi. This year, Nyepi , the day of complete silence and meditation

Silent night.................

It was Dec. 24th ,1818 in a small Austrian village called Oberndorf, just hours before Christmas mass and pastor Joseph Mohr was in a bind. His musical plans for the evening church service were ruined since the organ of his church (St. Nicholas Kirche) had broken down recently due to a recent flooding of the nearby river. What could he do? In a moment of inspiration, he grabbed a Christmas poem he had written two years earlier and quickly set off to the neighbouring village, where his friend Franz Gruber, the church organist, lived. Silent night was composed in just 2 hours........................

Is silence important in music?...........

Yes, because there are so many tones in silence. Everything emanates from silence. There's endless possibility. So when you're writing music, you come from a state of absolute concentration. I actually like, when I’m writing music, to have noise. I have the TV on, and a lot of people are always in my house making noise. It doesn't make a difference to me because I'm going to be concentrating with such intensity on what I'm trying to hear that the inside of my mind will be absolutely silent, except for what I’m hearing. And when I stop hearing it or if I stop, then there's absolute quiet. So that absolute silence is very important. It's like a meditation. In trumpet playing, we have something called long tone -- just one tone that you hold -- and that tone can become like white noise, like the sound of the ventilation. We hear "Whhhhh," and you try to make that tone so still that it is like silence. Essay: Wynton Marsalis http://wyntonmarsalis.org/

Music(crises)

Blockbuster, the DVD and games rental chain that went into administration in January, is to close down completely after failing to attract a buyer. Administrators Moorfields Corporate Recovery said all the remaining 91 UK stores, employing 808 people, would have to close. Blockbuster went into administration for a second time in October and has been closing outlets ever since. All stores will have ceased operations by 16 December, Moorfields said. All remaining stock will be sold by Sunday 15 December, with up to 90% discount. "It is with regret that we have to make today's announcement, we appreciate this is a difficult time for all concerned and would like to thank staff for their professionalism and support over the past month," said joint administrators Simon Thomas and Nick O'Reilly. "Unfortunately, we were unable to secure a buyer for the group as a going concern and as a result had to take the regrettable action to close the remaining stores." Mr O'Reilly told BBC Radio 5 live that the timing of Blockbuster's closure, shortly before Christmas, was "purely coincidental". He added: "We really did try our best to find a buyer, but that, unfortunately, hasn't proved possible." The rapid rise of online film streaming offered by the likes of Lovefilm and Netflix made Blockbuster's video and DVD business model practically obsolete. The most recent closures follow on from previous closure announcements in November. Blockbuster, the trading name of TS Operations, is currently owned by private equity firm Gordon Brothers Europe. Moorfields said high business rates had contributed to the video company's demise. Before its troubles began, Blockbuster had 528 stores. Blockbuster is one of several High Street names to have been affected by online competition, including camera chain Jessops, music and DVD group HMV, and electrical chain Comet.

Silent CD.........Sold out!!

A CD of the sounds of silence from inside a village church has sold out after becoming an unlikely hit. The 30-minute recording was originally created to help raise some extra funds for repairs to St Peter's Church in Seaford, East Sussex. Church members believed the atmosphere in their small 12th century church was so unique that its peacefulness would appeal to a wider audience. So they left some recording equipment on inside the building for half-an-hour. The only sounds that can be heard on the CD are the odd squeaking of the wooden pews, some footsteps and the distant hum of passing traffic. After selling out of the CD during a recent open day the church has now taken orders for it from as far afield as Germany, Austria and Ghana. Roger Bing, 74, from Seaford, the church member who came up with the idea, said: 'The church was planning an open day and wanted something a little bit different to catch the attention of people who were coming along. 'The church has got quite good recording equipment so we decided to make a CD of 30 minutes of silence. 'It is pretty much silence throughout with a few background noises. 'There are a few little noises here and there - I think if it was total silence people might get a bit bored.
